Pathway Challenge 2 Marketing & Promotion

Q1: Justification for the selection:

The reason for selecting Pitch and Pathway challenge two is mainly because of the passion I have for selling great ideas and listening to great ideas too. I always faced difficulty approaching investors due to some of my characteristics as an introvert although I knew that I had the potential to be a great communicator. This module helped me to fight back with the perceptions I had about me and push myself forward. I enjoyed engaging actively in most videos shared by the tutor as well as showed interest in learning and challenging new insights in the group discussions. Usually, we only happen to get a few minutes to pitch any idea to someone we meet on our way home, in a busy train or at a bank, thus it makes it difficult if we don’t see this opportunity coming in advance, this challenge created this amazing space to prepare ahead and look forward to such opportunities in the future.

Q2: What was it like putting your work into practice?

It was never easy, as I work in my organization full time, and as we have a very small team, it was never easy for me to catch up with the peace of the program at times. Sometimes, I happen to travel to very remote areas, making it difficult for me to actively engage, yet I didn’t give up, I fought against all the difficulties, developed a great interest and had perseverance to somehow learn and engage with others to practice the skills I have gained from the program. In fact, I started writing to investors and started applying for accelerator programs, so I see progress as a result of this module. I also have learnt to share about my organization with a wide audience more confidently and accurately than before.

Q3: What benefits and/or results did you see?

Getting interested parties for collaboration, invitations to public events, to conduct training programs are among some opportunities.

Q 4: The Positive impact of the process on the work we do:

1. Sending out Business proposals for interested parties –arranging a meeting, discussing prospects, and finalizing a deal, generating revenue for the start-up
2. Helping the nation develop it’s agri business landscape by investing in the future- Becoming an inspiration to young agri-business leaders- helping them with their home-based ventures through
training, off site and on site, guest lectures, case studies, and technology transforming them into becoming decision makers, survivors and future agri enterprises.
3. Active participation in networking events- the boosted esteem and interest in networking with diverse groups for awareness raising and business prospects.
4. Creating a linkage between the private sector and public sector- stepping forward to facilitate partnership and support between the private and public corporations to work together to create a sustainable agri-landscpae for Sri Lankan entrepreneurs through the development of text material- the first ever youth publication on urban agriculture
5. Harnessing technology to enhance the knowledge about the importance of food gardens with the illiterate and backward communities using radio as a medium- creating a partnership with the local media to carry out our message to a wider population to help more people to become self- reliant and healthy self-made farmers.

Q5: The goals for the future:

We hope to establish an agriculture school that will train and nurture thousands of gardeners (beginners to advanced) to become self-reliant as well as to start their own livelihood career program enabling them to become a part of the productive workforce of the country towards development. As well as to create a very affordable knowledge management system that will enable more and more people access resources related to growing their own food and building their own homes.
